Field goals by Chris Boswell and Justin Tucker were the main scores in Part One, a large part of which included eight breakaway hits and three turnovers. Boswell's field goal was set by recovering Henry Mundo from Tyler Huntley's wreck on Baltimore's first affiliation. Baltimore tied the score following a short-field profit-taking at the end of the main half.

The Steelers played most of the first half without holding back youngster Nagy Harris, who supported an elbow injury at Pittsburgh's first affiliation. History was made in the main half when T.J. Watt tied Michael Strahan's sack record per season. Watt attached the record to a Huntley sack during the last minute of the main half.
